Recreation Ground

With the full backing of the Recreation Ground Committee, we have recently embarked on a campaign to improve the totally inadequate existing facilities.  It will require SERIOUS expenditure but we are confident that grant funding is available. (Broadway has almost completed a new childrens play area costing in excess of £250,000 all obtained from grants).   We have already obtained a £3,000 “seed money” grant for Public Consultation and initial design and we have been shortlisted for Goverment Playbuilder funding, which could produce a grant of £40,000.

To make any further progress however, we have to prove that we have the backing of the Community and are providing what the Town needs.  School consultations have already started and a questionnaire has been included in the April Bulletin.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE complete and return the questionnaire asap.  If we are apathetic about the “Rec” we will not deserve anything better than we already have!

    Dear Ken

More power to your elbow. I was so disappointed when I moved here 4 years ago to find that there was no football team and that the fantastic recreation ground area was used so little. Sign me up for any fundraising activity. My grandkids love the play area but even that needs some TLC.

Just a swift note to say how very impressed I was by the presentation in the Old Police Station on Saturday. If only half the project is realised then we will have a fantastic Rec. if it all comes to fruition then we will be the envy of the county. Well done Ken and co. for getting it off the ground now lets all be positive and see it through.

Ahhhh yes another development or change to “the rec” of chipping campden.

However how many young people who will use the recreation ground have actually been consulted on this issue, or have the decisions come from the ageing population of Chipping Campden and its town councils.

It is not always what old people think is best, in fact in this instance it is far from it, do children really want or will they really use a nature trail and band stand. I doubt it very much.

I do not disagree that “the rec” needs a little TLC however I believe that the money being spent is far more than neccessary and could be put to much better use in facilities that children would actually use such as them astroturf at the sports centre to name just one of many examples.

I await eagerly the flood of outrage from the people who have yet to use “the rec” in the last 30 years other than to wlak their dog (which i would like to point out is banned in the recreation ground!”)

Ruffled Feathers seems, like our many feathered friends at this time of year to have started sing a song using all they have set the music, a birdbrain! Look at the plans, read the consultations. Our children, Campden’s children, have been consulted or been given the opportunity to add their ideas at almost every stage of the project so far. From pictures of swings and roundabouts to the well reasoned arguments that would put many adults to shame. Their ideas have benn and will be incorporated into what is still a very flexible scheme.

Cut the negative that kills Campden and hit the positive, this project is good and with our help will happen.

In answer to Ruffled Feathers may I just repeat the information which was on display at the Public Exhibition of the proposals:

We carried out consultation in every school in the Town.
    We consulted Youth Groups.
We consulted the Pear Tree Centre.
We had responses from 74% of young people in the Town.

We actually have two young people from Campden School on our project team. Some of their suggestions have already been incorporated into a revised scheme.

This is not a Town Council initiative. We hope that the final proposal will contain something for all sections of our community.

Ah so Nicholas Cutts things that the recreation ground alterations will be problematic for the Tennic club. One could have more belief in his cries if he was considerate and cared for Campden as he appears to claim. So Nicholas, we shall have more belief in your statement if you stop all your workers parking in the street all day long and parked them on your premises – as you stated in your planning applications for the shops in the Cam ‘Arcade’.
Your comments look decidely shallow when your actions are viewed.
