The church tower of St James  in Chipping Campden has been named as one of the 50 best medieval church towers or spires in England.

The Tower features in a new book by architect, Julian Flannery, which is the result  of five years research.When he visited the church in 2013 he remarked “unquestionably the most beautiful parish tower in the county”. In his book he compliments the tower for its”splendidly self-confident design, an exquisitely beautiful crown or top and its exemplary workmanship”.

At just over 58 metres high or 191 feet 4 inches (in old money!!) it ranks 33rd in the on the list where 50 is the best. St James gets 2 of the books 75 full page photographs and 11 of its 175 architectural drawings.

The book entitled Fifty English Steeples: The Finest Medieval Parish Church Towers and Spires in England  is published by Thames and Hudson at £50.
