Although there is a weight limit stopping lorries over 7.5t driving through the town centre larger vehicles are able to legally access if making deliveries or collections but should not enter the town centre if just driving through. Despite this, there have been many occasions when large vehicles have damaged signposts and kerbs as they are too large to manoeuvre through the narrow roads.
The town council are currently working with Gloucestershire Highways to improve the signage around the town to minimise lorries accidentally coming into the town with CCTV being used to identify those that do but the temptation for some drivers to take a shortcut has previously led to disruption and damage in the town for both residents and visitors.
If you see a large lorry in town that is not making a delivery please collect as much detail about it as possible (registration number, haulier name, date and time as a minimum, photos if safe to do so) and send the details to:- clerk@chippingcampden-tc.gov.uk
so that the Haulier can be contacted to be advised of the weight restriction.
