FESTIVALS

IN CHIPPING CAMPDEN

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The first Chipping Campden Music Festival was held in 2002, since when it has grown in stature and size year on year. It is now widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading festivals with visitors coming from Europe, America and Australia, as well as from all over the UK. The venue has become a favourite with many of the world’s finest musicians who all look forward to returning to this most beautiful of all the Cotswold towns.Chipping Campden

As well as our prestigious Music Festival the area offers a wealth of other cultural treasures; the RSC is just down the road,  the wonderful gardens of Hidcote and Kiftsgate are nearby. It really is the perfect setting for a long weekend or a fortnight’s holiday in the Cotswolds. Chipping Campden is also one of the most important homes of the Arts and Crafts movement. Fine accommodation at all prices is available, from luxury hotels, to lovely B&Bs and traditional Cotswold pubs.

Young Musicians
As well as two weeks of great music in the glorious setting of St James’ church, the festival also runs workshops in local

schools led by experienced music educators and in 2008 the Festival Academy  Orchestra was formed. This project offers advanced students and recent graduates the opportunity to perform alongside experienced professional orchestral players and world class soloists, and is now regarded as one of the UK’s finest training orchestras.

In 2013 the festival expanded its work to form two choirs – an adult community choir (the Festival chorus) and ‘Chipping Campden Young Voices’ choir.

In August 2015 we formed and ran the first ‘Festival Youth Academy Orchestra’ course. This involved the ‘Academy’ members from May returning to become mentors to secondary aged student musicians. It was so successful that we ran a second course in August 2016 and were delighted that one of the world’s leading violinists, Nicola Benedetti, agreed to join the orchestra as soloist in two concerts. The course will run again in August 2017. Meanwhile, we have now formed the North Cotswold Youth Orchestra which will be made up solely of local secondary aged students. A brochure can be downloaded here.
