IN CHIPPING CAMPDEN

MUSIC FESTIVAL

“The Chipping Campden Music Festival brings world-class artists – and also young musicians starting their professional journeys – to a wonderful venue. After a long lifetime as a performer, having the chance to be part of the audience and to hear concerts of outstanding quality in such a setting is the purest joy.” Bernard Haitink

The 2020 Music Festival runs from May 9th – 23rd. The full programme can be viewed at this link. Click here

The first Chipping Campden Music Festival was held in 2002, since when it has grown in stature and size year on year. It is now widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading festivals with visitors coming from Europe, America and Australia, as well as from all over the UK. The venue has become a favourite with many of the world’s finest musicians who all look forward to returning to this most beautiful of all the Cotswold towns.

Young Musicians
As well as two weeks of great music in the glorious setting of St James’ church, the festival also runs workshops in local schools led by experienced music educators and in 2008 the Festival Academy Orchestra was formed.

This project offers advanced students and recent graduates the opportunity to perform alongside experienced professional orchestral players and world class soloists, and is now regarded as one of the UK’s finest training orchestras.

In 2013 the festival expanded its work to form a community choir (the Festival chorus). The chorus has around 60 regular members and meets every Wednesday evening during term time, and presents three concerts during the year.

In August 2015 we formed and ran the first ‘Festival Youth Academy Orchestra’ course. This involved the ‘Academy’ members from May returning to become mentors to secondary aged student musicians. It was so successful that it has become a regular part of the Festival’s education programme and we ran very successful courses in August 2016, 2017, & 2018. Our priority for 2019 was to set up chamber music coaching sessions in local secondary, but the Youth Academy course will run again in August 2020.
