Last Thursday hundreds of people from the Gypsy travellor communities attended the biannual event, many without wearing masks and not abidding with social distancing. Members of the local community are now deeply concerned with lockdown measures easing today that this will have an impact on the local community, especially with an Indian variant circulating.
Despite the bad weather and muddy conditions, the event went ahead despite cries for it to be cancelled. The next event is due to happen later this year in October. Time will tell whether this has a regional impact on local case numbers.
Some local comments:
“How come the Covid Police aren’t sending them home?”.
“Why do all the men use the same barber?”.
“There are still COVID-19 restrictions or do they not apply to these people?”
