The Heartbeat of Local Tourism in Chipping Campden
Chipping Campden, with its rich history and picturesque landscapes, stands as one of the UK’s most cherished destinations.
From its honey-coloured limestone buildings to the welcoming atmosphere that infuses every street and alleyway, this Cotswold town is a gem worth preserving and promoting. At the heart of this mission lies the Chipping Campden Tourist Information Centre.
Here are some reasons why it’s important to support the TIC:
Boosting the Local Economy:
Tourism plays a vital role in the town’s economy. By directing visitors to local attractions, eateries, and shops, the centre stimulates local business. Each pound spent by a tourist multiplies in value as it filters through the community, ensuring sustainability for local enterprises.
Personalised Visitor Experience:
In the age of digital information, personal touch still matters. The staff at the Tourist Information Centre offers recommendations, anecdotes, and insights that no online platform can replicate. Their in-depth knowledge ensures that every visitor’s experience is unique and memorable.
Preserving Local Culture and History:
Chipping Campden’s history is a tapestry of stories, mysteries, and architectural marvels. The Tourist Information Centre is not just a place to grab a map; it’s where visitors can delve deep into the annals of the town’s past. Supporting the centre ensures that this rich history is kept alive for future generations.
Promotion of Lesser-Known Treasures:
While famous landmarks always draw crowds, it’s the lesser-known nooks and crannies of Chipping Campden that make it truly special. The centre plays an essential role in guiding tourists towards these hidden treasures, ensuring a holistic experience of the town.
Sustainable Tourism:
In an era where sustainable tourism is more critical than ever, the centre promotes eco-friendly practices, from suggesting walking tours to advocating for responsible exploration. By supporting the centre, we ensure that the beauty of Chipping Campden is preserved for posterity.
Community Engagement:
The Chipping Campden Tourist Information Centre is more than just a resource for visitors; it’s a hub for the local community. The centre supports the local community with news, resources such as the Bulletin and promotion of events.
Empowering Local Artisans:
The centre often showcases local art, crafts, and produce. By doing so, it gives a platform to local artisans, ensuring that the spirit of Chipping Campden’s creativity thrives and prospers.
Turning Their Back on Tourism?
In April 2021 a report to the Cotswold District Council Cabinet stated:
“The Council has long recognised the value of Tourism as one of our most valuable service sectors and the vital role it plays in the Cotswold economy.”
Despite this, in July 2023, CDC Cabinet decided, without any consultation or discernible impact analysis, to cease all grant funding to the remaining 4 Visitor Information Centres in the District with effect from the end of September 2023 – giving less than 3 months’ notice.
