Moreton Show is held at Moreton-in-Marsh and is a traditional one-day Agricultural and Horse Show full of family fun. It is held on the first Saturday in September each year and is among the most popular agricultural shows in the UK. Each year it attracts over 20,000 visitors to the event.
Set on a 165-acre site just a few miles off of the A4027, the Moreton Show will feature parades, classes, traders, and of course, animals.
The Moreton Show is one of the most successful one-day agricultural and farming events shows in the country, placing emphasis on the finest in British agriculture, equestrian sporting events, and rural life.
The show not only bestows awards on the best of British countryside but also some of the best local businesses that strive on the Cotswolds. The Main Avenues and Food Courts are full to the brim with local producers, from locally sourced Hereford beef to beautifully crafted woollen rugs using reused clothing, so no products are more difficult to find here.
Moreton Show 2023
New for 2023 is our first ever Sheep Shearing competition, we are very excited to welcome this new addition to the show, one which we are sure will prove very popular with both competitors and visitors. This competition is sure to get the crowd cheering as the shearers compete for the fastest time and the cleanest shear find them in the Livestock Area – the competition starts at 9am. We also welcome a new fast paced competition to the Horse Area – the Arena eventing Challenge sees teams and individual riders compete over a course of show jumps followed by a course of cross-country obstacles all striving to be the team home with the optimum time. Look out for the Golden Oldies award – a bonus award for the fastest team with a combined rider age of 150years young!
There will be lots of free activities to keep children entertained from holding the unusual albino snake at the mini zoo to having a go at being an acrobat with the circus skills. The animals at Old Farm Dorn Marquee will be eager to greet all our visitors and look forward to getting a few tasty snacks.
We welcome your four-legged friends to the showground, though please keep them on a fixed lead! Why not enter them into the Cotswold Raw Companion Dog Show, entries will be taken from 10am at the Dog Ring and classes start at 2pm. There will also be three terrier racing heats in the Attractions ring, the crowds always love cheering for the scampering legs of the terriers racing to catch the mop before it disappears behind the bales 🙂
The show is always looking for volunteers to help across the showground, please give the office a ring 01608 651908 if you would like to be involved. Without the support of our wonderful volunteers the show would not be able to run.
Background to the Moreton Show
Moreton Show was originally held in 1949 and has been held in the same location ever since. Its purpose is to boost the quality of farming and farm crafts locally.
A traditional one-day show and the main agricultural event in Gloucestershire, held at the extreme north of the County’s Cotswolds on the first Saturday in September each year. A true country show from the heart of the Cotswolds.
As soon as you begin exploring the show you realise there is more to this showcase than you initially imagined. The site incorporates old permanent pastures in the park. There are no permanent show buildings, so the Show is built up in an old-fashioned manner by marquees and hurdle pens, giving it the sensation of a traditional country show.
Competitions are held for horses, ponies, cattle [such as the National Show of Poll Hereford cattle], sheep [such as the National Show of Cotswold Sheep], goats, poultry, dogs, home crafts, flowers, vegetables and even scarecrows. Around 250 vending stalls offer everything from a tractor to a toy and a wide range of food and drink – to eat on-site and to bring along.
